museum miscellany

alongside my visit to the Wedding Dress exhibition on National Day, I visited a couple of other exhibitions and galleries in the National Museum . A couple of years ago, I’d have doubted my ability to enjoy museums. For the longest time, the only museums that interested me were the ones that were interactive. Then I found a major soft spot for Maritime Museums, which is funny, because I just cannot deal with choppy water and am not a big fan of boats. Maritime history fascinates me, and I think as I got more interested in the arts and culture, I’ve sort of grown to find a strange sense of calmness from roaming museums. Also helps that my college is surrounded by several museums. These are my miscellaneous discoveries from my last trip to the National Museum.

Next to The Wedding Dress exhibition was an exhibition on Ukraine.

Ukrainian jewellery was startlingly similar to Indian jewellery, in it’s ornate sense. This was part of a soldier’s outfit I believe.

Too cool for little plastic soldier. This is a soldier-statue made out of gold.

I kind of found this quite haunting. Reminded me a little of the Angels from Doctor Who, but it has been preserved so beautifully!

And old City of Singapore badge, from when Singapore was part of Malaya.

There are these funky ikea-esque lamps hanging in one portion of the museum.

I loved the gallery on Film and Singapore, and this wall of Indian Bollywood posters.

And the architecture of the building is super pretty.

A wall of coffeeshop cups! Such perfection.

A really tiny exhibit being tongue-in-cheek about our beloved Great Singapore Sale (GSS) I enjoyed this so very much.

SINGLISH MAGNETIC POETRY. How much fun would this be?

This means a lot more to locals than it would to tourists, but I literally burst out laughing seeing this because it is genius and actually something I would be so proud to own. KAN CHEONG SPIDER WATCH. The spider moves around your watch dial! GENIUS.
